Girlguiding in Prestbury

Girlguiding in Prestbury is represented by 1 Rainbow, 2 Brownie and 1 Guide packs, and a Senior Section. The Friends of Guiding in Prestbury (FoGiP) – Registered Charity 1043387 - works behind the scenes to free Unit Leaders (all volunteers) to devote their time for the benefit of their packs and our community. FoGiP raised the funds to build the Guiding Headquarters in Bollin Grove in 1997 and has the on-going responsibility for its maintenance and upkeep. It also helps the units by buying equipment and with coach hire for pack holidays and to meetings held away from ‘home base’, allowing members to maximise their Girlguiding experience. To do this, FoGiP arranges several popular fund-raising events during each year, such as quizzes, bingo, beetle drives and the highly popular annual ‘Big Crunch’ coffee morning held at the end of June in the Village Hall. All popular events and everybody is welcome.

Please see our website for more information and for links to make contact with unit leaders. The site’s diary pages list times and places for meetings, as well as other events.

Prestbury Youth Pantomime Association

Prestbury Youth Pantomime has existed for thirty years and emerged from the village's youth group. The show is performed at MADS Theatre in Macclesfield and involves some forty-five young people (school Year 7 upwards) performing as actors, singers and dancers as well as a large team of committee members and parents who assist in various capacities. The show employs a professional choregrapher, a musical director and an artistic director. Auditions are held in early July with rehearsals beginning in September. The pantomime demands full commitment from the young people and requires adult help in all aspects of backstage and front-of-house work. The group's ethos is to have fun whilst producing a show of high quality which develops young people's knowledge of live theatre as well as their social skills and self-confidence.

Golf Club

Founded in 1920, Prestbury was designed by Course Architect Harry Shapland Colt. Often described as the Sir Christopher Wren of golf course architects, his influence on course design is enormous. In 1934 Colt said of Prestbury - " Owing to the natural formation of the ground, the golf is, in my opinion, very interesting and the variety provided is excellent as every hole presents some distinct feature of an impressive character." A parkland course, set in the beautiful Cheshire countryside, Prestbury "truly deserves the accolade of hidden gem" (Golf Monthly) with its gently hilly terrain and its panoramic views of the Derbyshire Hills. Prestbury is a private Members Club, welcoming new Members, a fine test for visitors, and a perfect setting for Society golf days.

The Alderley Pilates Studio

Pilates is a body-conditioning method that works in a different way to other fitness techniques. Taggetting the deep postural muscles, it works by building strength from the inside out, rebalancing the body and bringing it into correct alignment. It helps to reshape your body, which will become longer, leaner and more toned. It will also improve your posture, achieve the perfect balance between strength and flexibility, and is a great way to relieve unwanted stress and tension. Ideal for athletes looking to enhance their performance and avoid the risk of injury, it is equally suiitable for first time exercisers. Its slow, controlled approach means that it gives long-term results - and is especially recommended by medical specialists for thos with back problems.

5) Churches

St Peters
Church

St. Peter’s, a beautiful listed building, has been at the centre of the village and of its worship for well over a thousand years. It is a thriving church with a fast-growing congregation, who find it a really welcoming and family-friendly place to meet and worship.

St. Peter’s caters for all ages, including youth groups from tots to teens, and this is reflected in the variety of worship styles we offer on Sundays. These include quiet early communion, a cathedral-style Matins, a more informal family worship experience at the main morning service that attracts a large all-age congregation, and also choral Evensong with traditional language. There’s something here for everyone.

Newcomers and regulars, young and old, seekers and pilgrims, all are welcome here. Join us, and discover how special it feels to be together at the heart of the Christian community - in this beautiful church, at the centre of this beautiful village.
